Abu Dhabi: Lewis Hamilton conceded the Formula One crown to Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg at the end of a tense Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yesterday.

Hamilton, world champion in the last two years, raced to his tenth win of the season. But, with Rosberg, winner of nine races this year, finishing 0.439 seconds behind in second, it wasn’t enough to clinch him a fourth career title. “You can’t win them all,” said Hamilton whose bid for a third title has been hobbled by poor reliability. “We had a lot of problems this year that’s why we’re inevitably in this position.”

Tensions ran high in the Mercedes camp in those closing stages of 55-lap race and the two childhood friends did not exchange words in its immediate aftermath. But the ice broke on the podium. “A big congratulations to Nico, of course, well done man,” said Hamilton. “I did everything I could these last four races. I’m going to have a lot of fun tonight,” the Briton added.

“You did a great season, a great competitor. It’s always tough to beat you. Guys at the team, Mercedes, please put the music on. I’m coming down in one second,” added Hamilton.
